LOCAL EDUCATIONAL VISIT TO BOTANICAL SURVEY OF INDIA, WESTERN CIRCLE, PUNE

SEPTEMBER 21, 2017: An educational visit to the Botanical Survey of India, Regional Office, Western Circle, Pune, was organized for the students of S.Y and T.Y. (Botany) by the department of Botany to create awareness regarding Career Development in the subject. B.S.I. is one such forefront for the subject of Botany. The visit was organized on Thursday, 21 st September, 2017 from 11am to 4 pm. The Director and his enthusiastic staff welcomed all. A brief history of B.S.I. was presented in the form of a documentary which highlighted the aims and objectives. Students were imparted with information and knowledge regarding the working of B.S.I. by showing them different repositories like Museum, Heritage building, Herbarium, Pathology Laboratory and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) working concept.  The students were briefed up regarding collection and preservation of museum and Herbarium specimens. STUDY TOUR TO LONAVALA

September 9, 2017:   As part of curriculum, a study tour for T.Y. B.Sc (Botany) was arranged to Lonavala on Saturday, 9 th September, 2017 from 7am to 5pm. The field trip aimed at studying vegetation , biodiversity, its distribution and collection of wild plant specimens belonging to algae, bryophytes, pteridophytes and angiosperms . Lonavala proves to be an ideal location for studies on biodiversity as it houses plants from diverse groups. Raewood Park, an arboreum , serves as ex- situ conservation of several medicinal and rare trees found in  Lonavala. Students collected wild specimens from various locations and preserved them for further use. Twelve students along-with staff members Dr. Sayyed Iliyas, Dr. Aafreen A. DEMONSTRATION: STEREOZOOM RESEARCH MICROSCOPE

August 2, 2017: A demonstration of ‘Stereozoom Research Microscope’ by Lawrence & Mayo was organized by the Department of Botany, Y & M AKI’s Poona College of Arts, Science & Commerce, Pune in the department laboratory . This was organized to educate faculty and students about innovative methods in the field of research so as to enhance its quality. 64 students from S.Y. and T.Y. (Botany) attended the demonstration along with faculty from Junior and Senior College. It presented a new dimension to studies related to anatomy, cytology, embryology, developmental botany, etc. The representatives from Lawrence & Mayo gave hands on training of the various applications of the microscope such as: high power calibrations, photography, shooting videos with the same, etc. It was quite an interactive session that motivated students. LOCAL STUDY TOUR TO C.T.C. HILLOCK, KONDWA, PUNE.

August  29, 2017: A local study tour for T.Y. B.Sc (Botany) students to the hillock at CTC, Kondwa, Pune, was undertaken as part of curriculum by the Department of Botany, AKI’s Poona  College, Pune.     Under the supervision of staff, students walked towards the destination from college while noting the names of plants enroute. On reaching the hillock, they collected plant specimens for preparation of Herbarium. This visit aimed at imparting practical knowledge about local vegetation, its density, distribution, floral biodiversity, etc. through onsite visit observations. Health, Hygiene and Nutrition Drive by T.Y. B.Sc. Botany Students At Tayyabia Orphanage, Pune

DEPARTMENT OF BOTANY Department of Botany, AKI’s Poona College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Camp, Pune organized an awareness program on ‘Health, Hygiene and Nutrition’ at Tayyabia Orphanage, Camp, Pune on 7 th January, 2018 from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm. The Program was started by recitation of few verses from the Holy Quran by Mr. Zaid Shaikh. The inauguration was done by Vice Principal Prof. Iqbal Shaikh of our college. Mr. Wahid Biyabani, Head Master of School of Tayyabia Orphanage and Dr. Mujeeb Shaikh were also a part of it. On this occasion Prof. Iqbal Shaikh addressed to the children about importance of personal and general hygiene. He also focused on some health and nutrition related issues and their way of solutions. Mr. Wahid Biyabani emphasized in his talk on need of awareness and how to inculcate such habits in children in their daily practices and at mass level. The students of T.Y.B.Sc.
