REPORT ON: VISIT TO MAHABALESHWAR ORPHANAGE


Organized by: DEPARTMENT OF BOTANY under the aegis of MUSKAN (the Healing Smile), a social initiative of the college and POONA COLLEGE ALUMNI ASSOCIATION

     Department of  Botany took an initiative to visit Mahabaleshwar orphanage to render their services in kind on Saturday,  25th January, 2020. The department in association with Poona College Alumni donated the following commodities with prior communication with the orphanage Headmistress:
1. Head scarves for girls (210)
2. Sweaters for girls and boys (180)
3. Shoes for girls and boys (131 pairs)
4. Steel bowls and spoons (400)
5. Apples (60kg)
6. Kinnos (60kg)
7. Jalebis (10kg)
8. Hand wash (15 litres: donated by department of Chemistry)

   Headmistress Mrs. Shabana Asad, of Mahabaleshwar Orphanage, gave an introductory speech. Head, Department of Botany and Alumnus of Poona College Mrs. Meherunisa Shaikh, highlighted the purpose of visit to the orphanage with special reference to the interaction of college students with that of the orphanage.  FY and TY students actively participated and distributed fruits and sweets to pupils of the orphanage. They experienced the life the orphans lived. Some of them were in tears and emotionally disturbed looking at the young (kids) orphans.
      Alumni of Poona College Mrs. Meherunisa Shaikh and Miss Nabila Shaikh, staff of Botany Department Dr. Rafik Shaikh, Dr. Aafreen A. Ahmed, Dr. Shafikh Shaikh, Mrs. Bismillah Patwegar and Mr. Javed Sagri contributed for this social initiative. Under the able guidance of Principal Dr. Aftab Anwar Shaikh and Vice Principal Prof. Iqbal Shaikh this activity was a successful. In all 77 students from first and third year B.Sc (Botany) and 06 Staff of the department visited the orphanage.

Health, Hygiene and Nutrition Drive by T.Y. B.Sc. Botany Students At Tayyabia Orphanage, Pune

DEPARTMENT OF BOTANY Department of Botany, AKI’s Poona College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Camp, Pune organized an awareness program on ‘Health, Hygiene and Nutrition’ at Tayyabia Orphanage, Camp, Pune on 7 th January, 2018 from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm. The Program was started by recitation of few verses from the Holy Quran by Mr. Zaid Shaikh. The inauguration was done by Vice Principal Prof. Iqbal Shaikh of our college. Mr. Wahid Biyabani, Head Master of School of Tayyabia Orphanage and Dr. Mujeeb Shaikh were also a part of it.
